One essential detail that most reenactors sadly tend to overlook is the fan. Proper
costumes, jewellery and shoes are relatively easy to find, but period correct fans
are much harder to come by. Using original
18th century fans is always
out of the question-, so I have taken up
fan making myself.
Just like in the old days, the designs are painted by hand in watercolour, gouache
and gold paint on thin but durable paper or stiffened silk.
|
The leafs
The leafs are painted on either
100% silk or exclusive Italian Roma paper.
|
|
The sticks
For the mounts I use recycled relatively
large sticks of wood, bone, or –if possible- ivory.

Commissions
If you want a custom
made fan with a special design to match a specific dress, I’d be happy to help you.

for prices and conditions.
Leaf designs from existing fans
can be copied also when it comes to embroideries. Paper leaves can be single-sided
but silk leaves need a firm backing of gauze or paper. I do not make double-sided
fans with decorations on both sides.
Custom made motifs are charged extra.
If required, the sticks can be decorated
with simple designs. My present stock of unused or recycled
sticks, antique or modern ones, however, is limited. I hope to be able to replace
the often hard-to-find recycled sticks with a stock of newly made, authentic looking
ones as soon as I can find a supplier.
